Completed Engine Volume Measurement

through spark-plug hole

Accurate and fast (approx. 2 seconds) Measurements of the enclosed combustion space volume by using the spark plug hole The RION Volumeter can also make measurements on the completely assembled cylinder block. Simply unscrew the spark plug and install a special adapter for the volumeter in the hole. The measurement is then made in the same quick and uncomplicated manner as described before without any special preparation.

Presision Measurement under dry conditions for any shape. Regardless of the shape, the combustion chamber volume can be measured by simply placing the volumeter on the combustion chamber cavity of the cylinder head. Instead of using a spark plug of the assembled engine, special adapters are used to connect to the volumeter so that the combustion chamber volume can be measured. During manufacturing or maintenance the combustion chamber volume can be measured in just two seconds under dry conditions.

It replaces the traditional calibration procedure during which the volume at the cylinder head or engine was defined by adding defined volume of liquid (oil) in a laboratory and time consuming process.
THEORY Acoustic test method using the principle of constant adiabatic change A loudspeaker is placed into the reference chamber with known Volume V 1  and is driven by a sinusoidal signal.  The reference volume is connected to the engine. The Volume of the engine is equal to the reference volume times the ratio of sound-pressure changes, which is measured by two microphones, one for each chamber.
